1年生英語科活動報告　Debate

10月、11月はDebateを行いました。
今回の目標は理由付けと素早く的確に反駁、
まとめのスピーチをすることでした。
命題は「高校生は制服を着るべきだ。」
「高校は生徒に宿題・課題を出すべきでない。」
「子供を育てるには都会より田舎のほうが良い。」
「週休３日制にすべきだ。」
「携帯電話は世界をより良くした。」
「TVゲームは我々にとって良い。」でした。
最初の立論はできても、反駁や結論のスピーチに苦戦していましたが、
回を重ねるごとに上手になっていきました。
さらに練習をし、言いたいことがスムーズに言えるように頑張ります。

In October, first grade students started working on how to do debates in English. They chose controversial topics to discuss in groups. Some of the topics they chose were: there should be no homework, video games are good for us, students should wear school uniforms, cell phones are good for society, 3-day weekends are the best, and it is better to raise a child in the countryside rather than the city. There were three parts to the debate, the construction, rebuttal, and summary. The students were very good at the constructive speech, but the rebuttal and summary were more difficult at first. However, as they practiced, they improved more and more until they were able to quickly respond to one another using English with only one minute to prepare in between. The students were able to practice critical reasoning as well as simple and understandable spoken English with one another. Great job, students!
